Smiths Mystery Bag Cook-Off

This exciting contest, held in our Zion Building as an indoor contest, tests the true masters of the kitchen. At the time of the contest, each team will be given a mystery box of ingredients from Smith's Food and Drug. Teams will each receive the same ingredients in all boxes. You supply the pots and pans and we supply the rest. Each team will be given an hour and a half to prepare their creation solely from the box of ingredients. Teams must create a menu of one main dish and two side dishes. This is your opportunity to show your culinary flair. Register early because only 10 teams (and two alternates) will be allowed!

Official rules:
1. Entries are limited to first ten (10) teams. Contestants may compete as an individual or a two (2) member team.
2. Contestants are responsible for bringing their own cooking equipment, utensils and serving dishes. All ingredients for cooking will be supplied. Absolutely no ingredients may be brought to the cook-off by the contestants. All dishes must be cooked on-site.
3. Cooks will have 30 minutes to decide on a menu after receiving the ingredients. Menus must consist of one main dish and two side dishes. A bread product is not required as a side dish. All dishes must be served at the same time.
4. Food must be presented to judges on platters. Contestants will supply their own platters. All food cooked must be presented for judging.
5. Two copies of your menu and recipes must be presented to the judges, neatly printed on 8 ½"x11" white paper; one with your menu and recipes only and one with your menu, recipes, name, address and phone number. Recipes will not be returned and become property of the Utah State Fair.
6. Entrants may not be professional cooks, chefs, food handlers, culinary instructors, employees of Fair or contest sponsors, their affiliates, subsidiaries, families, advertising or promotional agencies. The 2017 first place winner is not eligible to compete in 2018.
7. Only one winning team per household address.
8. Judging will be based on overall appearance of all dishes (25%), visual appeal (25%), originality (25%), taste and aroma (25%). Judges decisions are final.
